Outside of Catania, it may be worth seeing Taormina, which is on the same coast. It is a gorgeous city. Also, if you are a "godfather fan", it might also be worthwhile to take a trip to Savoca where the Sicilian segments of the Godfather were filmed. There you could find Vitelli's bar and the church shown in the wedding.

Thank-you so much for your suggestion, my partner and I are big "Godfather" fans so I will certainly visit Savoca, we're going to visit Taormina and spend a day in Syracusa too.

Welcome to Sicily cosmolola!

Enjoy pizzerie all over Catania, but make a stop at Eat Pizzeria.

Yes, do visit Taormina and Siracusa, and perhaps also Noto, and even Piazza Armerina's Villa Romana del Casale.

You might take the train from Catania to Santa Teresa Di Riva, and then take the Jonica bus onward to Savoca.

Catania is the most convenient base for public transport in Eastern Sicily – Take Interbus or the train from Catania to Taormina: Interbus, AST, or the train from Catania to Siracusa; AST to Mount Etna; Interbus to Piazza Armerina, Ragusa, or Giardini-Naxos; AST or Interbus to Noto or Acireale; SAIS Trasporti to Agrigento; SAIS Autolinee to Palermo, Enna, or Messina; AMT 534 to Acitrezza or Acicastello.
