train or plane... rome to sicily

Hello, Im looking for advice regarding getting to either Milazzo or Catania in Sicily from Rome. Does anyone know of a reliable small airline that does this trip. Or has anyone done the train trip..?

We did have flights booked with alitalia but have now bought backup flihts with ba to rome .. as it is our honeymoon and we are worried about alitalia going bust..!

many thanks J

Hi J-TEAM08,

The train is slow and tedious and not recommended.

Milazzo doesn’t have an airport – you would fly to either Reggio or Catania and then ferry over.

Trenitalia:

Your best option is to fly Air One, Blu-Express or Wind Jet from Rome to Catania.
