Sicily, 2nd year running, but looking for western sunsets..

Went to Sicily last year and loved it, so much so we're going again.

First location is sorted, San Lorenzo (same as last year) as the beach was perfect for the kids.

Last year we then went to Castellammare del Golfo which was good, but not amazing (slightly cloudy water, slightly dirty beach). So we are looking for a 2nd location. We are looking for somewhere on the west coast as we would like to stay somewhere where we can see the sun set into the sea while watching the kids (6 and 4) play on the beach.

We visited San Vito lo Capo which was beautful but ... it was so so crowded, when you put sun tan lotion on you ended up putting some on the people next to you! So, I would really appreciate answers to a couple of questions:

1. When does San Vito Lo Capo get busy? (We are arriving in Sicily on 19 July)

2. Where would people recommend for a sunset beach on the west coast? We are looking to stay on the beach and would like a kid friendly beach, quiet, but with a couple of restaurants (or ice cream / coffee bars) within easy walking distance.

3. I am struggling to find a beach on the west that looks nice enough...they all look a little windy and rough!?

As always any suggestions welcomed!

Try the beaches next to san vito lo capo:

Alcamo marina is not touristic but has a lot of local Alcamo residents with beach houses there. It also has a few lido's so you can easily buy some food and drink.

Or stay in Trappeto....

Welcome back Jeb!

San Lorenzo is lovely!

San Vito Lo Capo is busy in July, especially weekends.

Consider the beaches on Favignana, or the beaches in the southeast around Selinunte. The beaches here rival San Vito Lo Capo without the crowds!

Where to stay in Western Sicily?:
