Ferry from Messina to Villa San Giovanni

Can anyone tell me if you need to book the ferry from Messina to Villa San Giovanni or just turn up and wait?

If booking, how far ahead do you need to book? Do they fill up fast?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Welcome to Sicily Jelette!

You don’t need to book this crossing in advance.

Caronte Tourist runs this crossing.

Prego Jelette,

There's road construction through Calabria, so check road conditions here....

The road down to Villa San Giovanni from Naples is a bit of a nightmare due to alot of roadworks but very sceinic. When you get the San Giovanni you just drive up pay about 50 euros and on you go.

Whilst on the ferry try the arancini as they were some of the best we tasted in 4 months in sicily.

You may also consider the naples, palermo ferry as its overnight and a very peaceful way to make your journey to sicily. having travelled both ways I would recommend naples-palermo

TTT Lines also runs overnight ferry service between Naples and Catania - The overnight ferry also saves the cost of a night's hotel.

Caronte runs ferry service from Salerno to Messina if you'd like to avoid the drive.

Yes, the arancini on the ferry are very popular, a must also for locals!

Yes I think it was the lure of a lifetime supply from my girlfriends nonna of aranchini, pasta forno and sfingi that I was convinced I should marry her 15 years ago.

All three totally unresistable, like my wife.
