Boat Trips from Alghero

Are there any nice (but not pricey) boats trips that operate from Alghero along the coast? I am aware of the grotto di nettuno boat service but wondered if there were any others? Thanks

Hi Des

Our favourite is the Andrea Jensen which you can find plenty about in this forum or on their website: www.ajsailing.com. It is not a cheap day out but then they pack a lot in during your time on the water. I firmly believe they offer excellent value

Here is an excerpt from our apartment's Welcome Book that I wrote last year.

Do not hesitate over the price; even if you may feel it is a lot to spend. This is one experience that more than delivers; and we should know as we have been back a number of times. We just never get tired of setting sail from Alghero’s marina to spend a day meandering around the coast; bliss.

And what a day it is; not only do you get to enjoy Alghero and the surrounding area from a completely different perspective but your stomachs will be well catered for as well. Lunch is prepared on board and accompanied by local wines. Last time we enjoyed a starter of tomatoes, pesto and mozzarella followed by a simple pasta and platters of fruit.

Geoff and Viv are excellent hosts; who have built up a good knowledge of the island after their years of living here. Geoff will take you to little coves with brilliantly clear water for a spot of snorkeling and Viv will make sure you do not starve.

The boat itself is very stable but generally conditions are calm and the winds, if there are any off the not-too-distant African continent, will be warm.

Your group will not amount to more than than twelve and the Andrea Jensen is big enough for you to be able to mooch off to a corner for some quiet time.

Since the annual average for sunshine comes in at an incredible two hundred and seventy or more days for Sardinia, you can generally lay a safe bet on your particular day being blue skies, and settled enough to keep all those fair weather sailors pretty happy.

One last thing… apart from bathers, don’t forget your sunblock!
