2 days in Venice

Hi everyone,

Me and my husband(both 30s) are planning for 2 days in Venice. We will reach Venice on 17th August morning (from Florence) and leave on 19th Aug morning to Milan.

If will be really helpful if anyone can suggest some itinerary for 2 days. I have seen Rick Steve's blogs, got a fair idea from it. but what I wanted to know as we have less time what all must see places should we cover. We like history but not a very big fan of it.

If possible please suggest which area should we look for hotels so that it will be easy for us. Also any great local eat out joints.

Thanks in advance.

It is a shame that you have done things in this way as there is backtracking, Milan being between the other 2,

Where you stay in Venice it is not too important as Venice is quite small, but do make sure you have air conditioning, can be hot and humid in August, I think DK Venice Top Ten guide book is worth getting from that you can choose what appeals to you to see, not a great fan of Rick Steves myself,

Thanks Sophie for your suggestion. Will keep it in mind. I am aware that Milan is between the other two. Reason for such a plan being we will go to Chamonix from Milan. Let me know if you have any itinerary in mind. It will help a lot.

Thanks again.

A good guidebook will best help you determine the 'must sees' as we aren't sure of your interests--history? Art? I completely agree with sophie8 on the DK Venice Top Ten suggestion. We found the Rick Steves book on Venice to be not very accurate.

I have been to Venice more than a dozen times since 1970, never for less than 5 days on each visit, and I never think it's enough time. So two days??? I don't think you will see much, except just the surface, and what you do see will go by in a blur. To me, travel is not about how many places you can check off your bucket list, but how much you learn from each place you visit. Since your order of travel is somewhat out of whack you might be better off seeing the towns around Florence and Milan and leaving Venice for another trip when you have more time to see this magnificent city in more detail. Travel north from Milan to Lake Como and into the Alps, for example.
