Hi,The low season would be Novermber 15th through March 15th. However, if there is a special holiday(EAster) or festa during this time then it could be busy.

We were in Venice a few years ago arriving around the 11th November, just before the high tides caused some low level flooding. Having been to Venice previously in September, we certainly noticed a big difference on this trip.

No crowds, easy entry into every site and St Marks Square so very quiet. It was cool but we loved that visit and were able to cover a lot more in a shorter time without the crowds and of course the big bonus was that accommodation was much cheaper. Stayed close to St Marks Square in a gorgeous Art Deco hotel for a few days and just loved it.

From there we stayed 5 days in Florence and again no crowds and no queue's anywhere - strange to be able to enter the Uffizi with out waiting. The Duomo area was also very quiet and after being there when we were almost shoulder to shoulder with people, this was such a nice experience.

Heading over to Italy again this year, our 6th visit and going again late October through to Mid November. Just hit the last of the peak time for our first week, for us Aussies a bit hard on the pocket but once November kicks in everything much cheaper including quite a difference in charges for our Rome Hotel. There is marked difference to when we first arrive in October and stay a night compared to the cost on our return night in November to stay just before flying home. We invariably travel off season, expect the weather not to be brilliant (sometimes have exceptionally good luck) but the lack of crowds and cheaper rates compensate for any negatives weather wise.

Take a look at Pensione Calcina's price list. The dates there should not apply exactly to the other hotels but it should give you an idea.

And when people make hotel recommendation request, it is important to state the priode of time for the stay as the price could change a lot (sometimes even double to triple) depending on the seasons.
