Well, first of all you should probably do your posting on the Rome Forum, rather than the Venice one. You'll probably get a lot more helpful responses. But that being said, there's a restaurant that you MUST go to! It's called the Trattoria del Pallaro. It's located a block south of Corso Vittorio Emmanuele, down Largo del Chiavari to Largo del Pallaro 15, telephone number 06-6880-1488. (this is the last number I have for them) They have no menu...you eat what they cook! Paola Fazi-with a towel wrapped around her head, turban-style- and her family serve a five-course meal including wine, coffee and a wonderful mandarin liqueur. Their slogan is "Here, you'll eat what we want to feed you." They are closed on Monday. It's very small and the food is wonderful; all five courses including dessert for right around 20 Euros. They will correct you if you don't eat their food the way they want you to...ladling gravy over meat, dipping biscotti into the liqueur, etc. They also get a little upset if you don't eat ALL of your food! Which is difficult because they serve you a feast! But it's definitely a wonderful experience to meet Paola and her family and sample some traditional Roman food. If you by chance have a 'Rick Steves' travel book - show Paola her listing in the book and she will get a big smile on her face and put you at the front of the line!
