2 for 1 train tickets

I am planning on going to Verona on Sept 16 for a day trip from Venice. In looking at train tickets I see we can get 2 for 1 tickets for 17.70 Euro for the regional train which takes 1 hour 27 minutes.. Any Idea how far ahead one must purchase tickets to get the 2 for 1 deal? We are both over 60. Can we book senior tickets for a discount? Also is the station we want in Verona Porto Nuova or Verona Vescovo?

1) IF you were travelling on a train that has a "Base" rate (so NOT by R/RV trains!), up to 2 days before the Saturday you want to travel on: trenitalia.com/tcom-en/…2x1-Special-Offer

2) No you can't get any senior discounts, unless you would have a Cartafreccia Senior (trenitalia.com/cms-file/…FRECCIA_SENIOR) which it wouldn't be worth buying unless travelling a lot more frequently than Venice to Verona and back (and by Frecce).

3) The city centre is just about equidistant from both, but Porta Nuova is the main station, and the only one Frecce and IC trains will stop at.

While the 2 for 1 offers are not sold less than two days beforehand, they are limited in number so can sell out earlier.

www.trenitalia.com/tcom-en will always show you the cheapest offers available on the day you consult it. Prices of trains with reserved seats rise to the full Base price once other offers have sold out, but Regional trains have a fixed price which is the same in advance or on the day of travel.

It's the Carta Argento for seniors which is not worth purchasing. The Cartafreccia Senior is for Italian residents.

We got 2 for 1 tickets- we're going in October, and got them a week ago. Are the 2 for 1 tickets only for Saturdays? We couldn't get it for Tuesday we are travelling, but did for the two Saturdays.

Please, someone correct me here if I'm wrong. It may be something worth knowing for other travellers.
