Tirano --things open Sundays?

We are on a cycling trip with a Sunday morning ride in the Tirano area. We want to drop our wives off in town for the morning (about 4-5 hours), and wonder if things will be open for them to do Sunday mornings (besides church!).

Any thoughts on things to do in Tirano.

Or, we could send them on by train to Varenna, where we will be heading in the afternoon. In that case, is there a nice "pay-back" restaurant you might recommend for lunch for them as they wait?

I hope it is not too late for this reply, anyway the only thing open on Sundays in Tirano is the Sanctuary! Train to Varenna is a good idea, there are good restaurants in the pedestrian area on the waterfront. Another alternative from Tirano is the Bernina Express train, going to Berninapass or St Moritz. You can check your available time with schedules at: http://www.rhb.ch/index.php?id=891?&L=4. Due to a landslide, the first km of the railway after Tirano are presently substituted by a bus servivce up to next March 09, but this does not change the schedule significantly.
