trains vs cars

My husband and I are travelling for one week from Tuscany to Venice to Lake Como to CInque Terre. Is is better/ less expensive to go by car or train?

What is price of gas currently?

It really depends on the details of your travels. You can get train times and costs from www.trenitalia.com/homepage_en.html and driving directions, rather optimistic times, and estimated costs (fuel and tolls) from www.viamichelin.com

A couple of thoughts here:

#1) Rental cars in Italy make more economic sense for a group of three or four. For you and your husband the economics might work out for train.

#2) your no 1 and no 4 (Tuscany and Cinque Terre) are not far from each other. Have you looked at this on a map?

#3) Driving in Italy is nothing to be afraid of but it is rarely as laid back as driving around the old familiar neighborhood. For a first trip to Italy, you might find trains less stressful (more of a vacation).
