Travelling from Milan to Bellagio/Lake Como

We'll be heading from Milan to Bellagio and back to Milan by train and ferry this Spring. Any suggestions regarding the best/most fun way to make this trip?

Yes, it's possible..

But you are going to spend nearly 3.5 hours each way getting to Como and back, which is a long time for a day trip. Have you thought about visiting Lake Garda instead, which is under two hours from Venice?

We are looking at options in and out of Bellagio, July 2013 and toying with these options: we are coming from Luzern and go onwards to Rome, advice, please, about what I have missed?

1. Luzern--Como S. Giovanni--C30 bus (can't see much water transport, Como--Bellagio)

2. Luzern--Lugano--local bus to Menaggio--ferry

3. Luzern--Milan--Varenna--ferry

4. Bellagio--Varenna by ferry--Milan--Rome

5. C30 bus plus trains in reverse--Milan--Rome
