I am going to be in Como for a few days and would like to drive towards Rome- and leave from Rome- Where is best to stop en route?

RonniD, it depends on what you like and how much time you have.
If yu have some time and like good wine and food, I would head south spend a few days in Piedmont, then down via Genoa, Cinque Terre, Pisa, Florence, and Rome, with side stops and detours in each place. Or you could go via Emiglia Roma, and cut down through Umbria and Tuscany, stop off at places like Urbino, Assisi and Sienna. So many places, my only advice is don't try to do too many, Italy is not going away you can always come back.
