travelling from Venice to Bellagio and then to Milan airport

Hi.

Could I have some help with this please?

What is the quickest way to get from Venice to Bellagio at the send of September? I have read somewhere that we should book trains as early as possible for the lower fares?

How long would it take?

We are in Bellagio for 2 nights and then need to make our way back to Milan for a flight the next morning. Can we catch a boat? What is the best way to make the most of our time?

Any help appreciated

Thanks

From Venice, book a train from Venezia S. Lucia to Milano Centrale on www.trenitalia.com clicking the UK flag for English first and entering your 'hour' of departure e.g. enter '7' for 07.00. Buy the connecting Regional ticket to Varenna-Esino in Venice (from a machine to avoid lines) for €6.45 and validate before boarding in Milan. Typical total journey time is four hours. Walk down to the lake n Varenna and board a fairly frequent ferry which takes fifteen minutes to Bellagio.

To Milan's Malpensa Airport the easiest way is flytolake.com/index.php/en/2013-02-19-15-37-… - cheaper routes are available requiring a ferry or a bus plus two different trains. I assume you are not departing from one of Milan's other two airports?

Hello

thanks for this. So just clarify its a train to Milan and then another train to Varenna-Esino? Would you advise we book the train asap or when we are there? We are there in 3 weeks.

And yes we are departing Malpensa airport

Thanks

You have left it much too late to get really cheap tickets. Tickets go on sale 4 months before travel, and the discounted tickets can sell quickly. However, it would be worthwhile looking on www.trenitalia.com to see if there are still any discounted fares for Vence-Milan.

There are never discounted fares for Milan-Varenna, and these tickets are better bought in Italy. You can get them from any train station that has a staffed ticket office, and from ticket machines at major stations. Tickets bought in Italy can be used on any local train for the journey purchased. The tickets must be time-stamped in a machine at the station before you get on the train,.

Hi thanks for your responses.

Is it worth booking first class tickets between Venice and Milan?

I heard that if you didnt it can get squishy on the train with people standing all around you?

No, it is not worth booking first class tickets. On the fast trains, seat reservations are compulsory, so you will not find anyone standing.

The Regionale trains just might have standing passengers (although it is unlikely) but most of them do not have first class.

Did that same run this past May. Opted to use Fly to Lake as a splurge to Malpensa from Bellagio early on a Sunday morning, rather than getting a hotel in Milan the night before. Best decision we made. Had extra time in Bellagio and Fly to Lake was on time and got us to the airport in plenty of time.

thanks for that. Didnt think about doing that. I have already pre booked the hotel in Milan. :(

How much would fly to lake be compared to ferry and the trains? What would be the difference in travel time?

Wondering if fly to lake is best thing to do if we organise a late transfer the night before our flight or would we be just as good to catch the ferry and enjoy being on the water and then train?

thanks
