Must see in Lake Como, Italy?

We are headed to Lake Como this weekend staying in Bellagio.

What are the best recommendations to see in the area? I would like to do a ferry ride across the lake, as we only have 2 days which of the small towns would be nicer to see Verenna, Menaggio or Cadenabbia.

My must see would definitely be Villa Carlotta. The house is dreamy, the gardens amazing, and from there you can walk along the Lake and enjoy.

Varenna is very scenic and its mid-lake location and ferry port makes it an excellent destination from Bellagio.

Varenna is a mediaeval town with alleys rising from the lake – A fjord, very lovely. You could walk from the harbour to the town square. Varenna has a charming Passerella – A (flat) lakeside promenade connecting the harbour to the old town. The alleys from the promenade up to the square have many steps and are a steep climb.

Varenna’s medieaval town square has four churches. Castello di Vezio is Varenna’s ruined castle sitting on a hill above town and the lakeside gardens of Villa Cipressi and Villa Monastero (along the road) are enchanting.

For a relatively small town, Varenna has some excellent restaurants. There are restaurants at the habour (Olivedo) and along the promenade (Vecchia Varenna).
