taxi fares around Genoa

We will be taking a bus from the airport to our destination in Genoa because for the 9 kilometre journey taxis that you can book via the internet are charging up to and over £100.00 for 5 of us.

However, these are airport taxis so imagine they will be dearer.

How reasonable is it to travel to somewhere like Corso Italia from the old harbour near the Maddalena district, I make it approx. 2 and half miles. We don't mind taking the bus but don't know where to get it from or how to pay - some need a prepaid ticket I think.

Thanks.

Metered taxi fares in Genoa are meant to be as follows http://www.cooptaxige.it/it_tariffe.html (click the lower UK flag not the upper) - but some taxi drivers are rapacious, and many taxis will not hold five people plus their vacation luggage.

Bus fares are here …genova.it/tariffe/viaggiatore_occasionale.a… - the ordinary ticket costs €1.50 bought in advance and €2.50 bought on the bus and is good for 100 minutes travel after validation on buses, trains within city limits, e.g. to Nervi, funiculars. There are carnets of 10 tickets which reduce the price per ticket to €1.40, and possibly more useful for you, 24 hour tickets for one person at €4.50 and for four people at €9.

There are over 1000 ticket vendors, mainly tobacconists and news stands - putting Maddalena as the address (indirizzo) in www.amt.genova.it/tariffe/convenzionati.asp produces one of each.

Use …liguria.it/JourneyPlanner/bin/query.exe/en… to research bus routes - via della Maddalena Genova to Corso Italia Genova shows direct buses from Piazza Fontane Marose.

Note that the €6 ticket for the Volabus from the airport covers you in addition for another 60 minutes on public transport in Genoa the same day, except (unlike the other tickets) on trenitalia trains.
