Myself and my girlfriend are embarking on the following summer voyage next week and wondered if any of you old hands out there had any last minute pointers. We're not tight but are mindful that we will have a budget to stick to as we have a 3 week trip planned to Asia in October to save for too!
We're flying into Pisa, hiring a car from Sixt at the airport and heading down to Perugia.
(We saved £15 by booking through Jet2.com rather than holiday autos by the way!)
We're booked into the Hotel Rosalba for 2 nights. The reviews are fairly mixed so does anybody have any better ideas or suggestions?)
Parking is a factor - Perugia was our choice of town to base ourselves and tour a few of the nearby hill towns but we are flexible. (Our budget is approx €80 per night.) Whilst there we plan to visit Gubbio/Assisi/Spoletto/Umbria and return north to Siena for one night at Albergo "Cannon d'Oro".
This should give us enough time to see some of Siena as well as break up the journey a little bit - is there perhaps a more scenic drive to Siena (ie the SR2 from Orvieto?) that the main route?
We will then make our way to La Spezia to drop off the car at Sixt 'downtown' before catching a train to Lerici.
We are booked to spend three nights Doria Park Hotel in Lerici and we cannot wait to walk a trail or two and take the ferry service to the Cinque Terre villages for some pottering about (meals/food markets and generally soak it up..)
We're then heading back to Lucca for our last night and have booked the Piccola Hotel Pucini, its meant to be close to the station which will be useful for our early train departure to Pisa airport the following day. (we have a 9am check-in close and 10AM departure to Edinburgh - is this straight forward?)
If you have any good B&B/restaurant/food shop or market and scenic route reccommendations then I'd be very grateful indeed.
Thanks for any pointers!
