parking in Trieste

I am planing traveling to Trieste with car. Which car parking should I chose and how much does it cost. In Silos car parking, near bus station I see that 7 hours is cost 14 eur and 16 eur for 24 hours. Does it mean, that I pay 16 eur if I stay more than 7 hours? Or should I pay 14 eur for 7 hours plus 16 eur for 24 hours, if I stay more than 7 hours.

All parkings/garages I know of will charge you a day price if you stay for more than 7 or 8 hours which is actually fair. In your example, it would be 14 EUR for more than 7 hours.

You didn't say for how long would you like to leave the car? After having some issues with parking in Trieste :) I would suggest Giulia shopping mall's garage. It's on top of Viale XX Settembre (pedestrian zone, like Knez Mihailova in Belgrade) and it has security cameras. All day should be 12 EUR. And it really isn't too far from Piazza Unita and other interesting things. If you want to get closer, you'll have to pay more (16 EUR/day). The ones in better location are also usually harder to get to, as you need to drive through busy narrow streets. Which is another horror story. :) A good website to check: http://en.parkopedia.it/parking/trieste/.

Btw, I was warned by many not to leave the car in the port. I didn't have any problems, but... Also, that parking is paid up front so you need to know for how long you'll stay, which can be tricky. If staying near the Torri d'Europa shopping mall, you can use their garage, very cheap. And there's a new parking almost in front of it (not covered). In general, garages with cameras are more secure and thus a better choice for many. Non-covered parkings I think are free on weekends or something like that.

In garages, you take a ticket as you go in and need to pay before you go out. There's usually a machine for that. You insert the ticket, it tells you the price and you enter the money. NOTE: some machines do not give change back (those paid up front) and some are Italian only. Once you do pay, there's enough time to get out, I didn't have any problems with that.

Any more questions? :)

Btw, to get some feel of Trieste, if you haven't been before, check my MTB Street view movies - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2DNfYc02Kzw and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lTlrzOcewWQ. The first one shows you the way from Giulia shopping mall down Viale XX Settembre, via Ponterosso, all the way to Piazza Unita, so you can see how close/far it is.

Also, since you're from Belgrade, you can check my very, very, very, very long travel post from Trieste, including parking and driving issues, as well as lots of pictures and some suggestions - http://srdjanicanic.travellerspoint.com/2/.

Let's be nice and use English. :) If you don't mind going by bus it's probably the better choice. Rovinj is close enough and those narrow busy streets of Trieste can be a nightmare. But! You should visit the Miramare castle which is ~7 km from Trieste, along the sea. It's beautiful and would be a real shame to miss (you can see pictures in that travel post of mine). So check which bus can take you there. I'm told the city (bus) transport in Trieste works great. So if there's no real reason for you to have a car there, don't.

A do Trsta cu ipak autobusom!

Simply use Molo 4 parking (entrance from piazza Duca degli Abruzzi/corso Cavour), just few blocks from the silos and costs only 10 €/day.
