where in the emila romagna region for beach & night life

family of 5 --mum, dad, 21yr old, 18yr old & 11yr old.--a real mixture. looking for a decent hotel close to the beach & a bit of night life for the older ones. Rimini was first to spring to mind but I've read that it can turn out like Blackpool, or in Ireland Bundoran

Going in late June early July so i don't think there should be too many people about. just looking for a decent hotel that has a pool as well as being close to the beach & MUST have A/C ---us Irish are just no good in the heat!

any suggestions on anywhere is OK as we are thinking about renting a car for the holiday. Thought about a villa but then somebody mentioned they are usually off the beaten track & i think it's nice for the younger one to have a bit of company which she should find in the pool

any help greatly appreciated ----- my head's turned reading one post after another & following one site to another to be just as confused as when i started

cheers

ian

Well you are right with Rimini about being a bit like Blackpool. Highly commercialised and has been a main destination for Italians, especialy the younger age group (nightclubs, discos) for many years (my italian friends now in their 40s said it was the place to go when they were younger).

Hotels with pool - narrowing your choice a bit as there is a tendency for Hotels not to have them as they have a "Bagno" (beach emplacements with sun beds/Umbrella/cafe facilities) on the beach (the thinking is as you have access to the beach "services" they don't need to have a pool at the hotel. Please note that the entire coastline is "infested" with these Bagni (just go on google maps and look at the beach areas and you will get an idea). You are not allowed to plonk yourself down on the beach where you like and certainly not in the vicinity of the Bagni. Some Hotels will include "ombrello" (sunbed place) in the room rate. Best to check.

Rimini addresses stretch a long way along the coast from Torre Pedrera in the north to Fogliana Marina in the south so check exact location.

The area north of Rimini Harbour (Viserba, Viserbella area) tends to be more families (younger)

Personally I prefer Riccione

Not a personal recommendation but

nauticohotel.it/en/riccione-and-the-beach_47… is on the seafront at Riccione, they have a small rooftop pool but also have use of a couple of Bagni (86-87 & 90) "Sunny Beach". Don't know if it is included in the price.

Here is the Spiaggia del Sole website (sunny beach)

http://www.spiaggiadelsole.it/

Also the area around Viale Maria Ceccarini is mostly pedestrianised with bars restaurants and shops

I strongly recommended @ gifs are perfect!

I would add that many "bagni" in Riccione also have a swimming pool! Riccione is more modern! But Rimini is also a historical city.

hi giftzwerg

thanks for the last reply--still doing my research & still as much in the dark as when i started. have now been looking at cervia further up the coast. have an offer from the hotel universal there but not sure if the location is right. seems to tick all the boxes as regards sea & sand but not sure if it's going to have enough for the bigger teenegers to do at night. do u have any experience of the place and things to do etc. checked the forum here but very little info

Cervia has quite a small beach and is lovely, but a small town based around a busy harbour.

I would not rule out rimini, I am there atleast once a year and the only time I would tell anyone to avoid is the 1st couple of week s august when it gets far too busy.

Stay around marina centro area, a hotel slap bang in the middle is Hotel Villa Adriatica, many advertise that they are Marina Centro but in reality are not.

Cervia in my opinion is best visited early evening when it becomes bustling and if you have a car then this should no problem.

hi GM

is there any night life in cervia for the 2 older kids --21yr old & an 18 yr old --like i said reading different posts etc i'm totally confused as to where to look ---back looking at rimini & the areas a little closer to it ---riccone for one

any suggestions for rimini would help--i read to stay away from Rivazzurra, Miramare, & Marebello areas in rimini ---any truth in that

There is nothing wrong with any part of rimini, in my opinion, I just prefer marina centro as it is walking distance to the old town and the old area of san giuliano.

You will have a great holiday regardless of what area you settle on.

Regarding nightlife in cervia, I'll let one of the locals advise you.

Try -- venere.com for hotels and reviews, you can select the desired area in rimini, I would select marina.

a nice hotel with a pool is Hotel Villa Adriatica, It's in the nicest part of Rimini with lot's going on round about it, there is also a few late night bar/clubs along the beach front.

Let us know how you get on, good luck

Dear Ian and Maura,

When I was young (starting when I was a child up to 19/20 years old) I went to Rimini all summers and for me was perfect. In my opinion for your whole family an accomodation between Rimini (Marina Centro) and Rivazzurra, or Riccione will be perfect. This area is well served with public transport, so you can move during day to go to acquaparks without need to drive. And during night you will find buses even at late night, so if your sons drink too much don't need to drive and can safely come back to hotel.

About nightlife you can find all you need for younger or older sons: in the worst case you should spend 20/30 minutes by bus to reach the place you want to go (or 1 hour to go to the bigger discoteques on the hills).

Cervia, Cesenatico, Marina di Ravenna and so on are more quite, so probably during the night your sons must go by car to reach different night clubs or pubs.

This is my opinion.

Bye

Riccardo

hi riccardo

since u have a good knowledge of rimini & surrounding areas can u tell me if there is a better beach or the best place to swim --we live in donegal in ireland & believe me when i say if we could guarantee sunshine here during the summer we would never leave as we have the most beautiful beaches & water ----the biggest problem is we get very little sunshine
