Country area to stay around Bologna

I am travelling to the Bologna area in May 2014. I will have a car. I want to visit Bologna, Parma, Modena etc. but prefer to stay in a good quality place out in the countryside rather than in a city. Any suggestions for regions or specific places?

We found our place on this site:

agriturismo.it/en/…bologna

We are staying at a winery but there were SO many choices.

If you look at a map, you'll see that the A1/E35 autostrada connects the three cities you want to visit. To the southwest of the autostrada, you soon come to the foothills of the Apennines, while to the northeast is the vast Po valley, very flat and usually hot and humid in the summer, and often even in May. Modena is about halfway between Bologna and Parma, so somewhere in the vicinity of Modena would be convenient. If you want to visit these cities by train, leaving your car at a station, you should look for a place near one of the stations. In addition to the three cities you want to visit, there are fast (and cheap) regional trains (regionali veloci) that also stop at Castelfranco Emilia and Reggio Emilia. Slower trains also make even more stops, but there aren't very many of them in a day, so you'd have little choice of train.

Hi,

I know the Agriturismo San Polo and could be a good choice. Castelvetro (and generally all towns and villages located on the foothill) are a good location to stay in summer, because not so hot like the plan and not too far from cities.

I suggest even my town Vignola. Agriturismo Toschi http://www.itoschi.it/agriturismo.html or Casale della Mora https:/…ostellocasaledellamora or Hotel la Cartiera http://www.hotellacartiera.it/ .

Both Castelvetro and Vignola are at 15Km far from highway (Modena sud) to reach some of the city you want and are nice to stay and rest in quite place for the night. By car in one hour or a little more (depend from the traffic) you can reach the Bologna center or Parma; closer are Modena or Reggio Emilia. A little farer but easily doable for a daily trip are Ferrara, Ravenna or Verona.

Bye
