Air travel into Bologna * Ideas for city center hotel?

Anyone had any experience in flying a non-legacy, low-fare airline from London Heathrow into Bologna? I can get a flight on miles into LHR, but non-stop, round-trip flights from there to Bologna are kind of pricey.

Any suggestion for 3-star + hotels in city center which include in-room wifi and breakfast within walking distance of attractions?

Any suggestions would be most welcome. Regards ... //Dwain.

So far as I can see, RyanAir flies from Stanstead (which should be avoided), and easyJet flies from Gatwick. I can see some reasonably-priced flights from Heathrow on British Airways. See www.skyscanner.net

European cheap airlines are fine: they get you from point A to point B. Look out for extra charges for luggage.

Don't pay much attention to hotel stars in Italy. They are awarded on physical facilities and say very little about how good the hotel is. A hotel might get an extra star for having a restaurant, even if every evening it is full of rowdy bus tour parties. Have a look on www.venere.com

Don't ignore airlines such as BA. We use them to fly to Italy, including Bologna. Their fare deals are very often the same or little more than the budget airlines once you have added all the extras charged by the budget airlines eg for checked luggage. Plus their luggage allowances are more generous.

BA has a service to Bologna from Heathrow (as well as Gatwick). If you can avoid days/flights used by business people the deals are there.

Try the Paradise Hotel

We travelled from Gatwick to Bologna on BA last summer. I found the fare on skyscanner.net. It was as inexpensive as the budget airlines and the service was better. Plus there was no charge to check a bag.

Stay at the Hotel Paradise. Very central, clean and excellent service. They also have apartments for rent ( I have rented them 3 times now). Can't go wrong!

Don't know about air travel into Bologna; we have visited the city twice and we flew into Venice both times. But if you don't need a glitzy, high-priced hotel, stay at the Hotel Roma. It has a very central location from which you can easily walk to Piazza Maggiore and other popular attractions. The rooms are not fancy, but they are clean and comfortable, the staff is very accommodating, and the price is reasonable. When we stayed there in September, 2010, we paid 130 Euros per night. We spent 18 days in Italy and visited several cities on that trip, and the Hotel Roma was the least expensive of all our hotels, and also one of our favorites.

Another vote for Paradise Hotel, not fancy but very comfortable rooms, elevator, good breakfast, good location, great staff. Bologna hotels fill up fast when there is an event going on.

Bologna hotel prices also shoot up to celestial limits when there's a trade fair on.

Another vote for the Paradise Hotel. Its apartments are across the street from the hotel, and you can use all the hotel services, including the breakfast. Hotel staff make up the rooms. One more thing in favor of the Paradise Hotel is that there is a stop for the airport shuttle bus just steps from its door. You can get off the bus there, even before it reaches the train station. The hotel is also within an easy walk to the train station, as well as to the Piazza Maggiore.

maybe too late for this reply, but we go BA from Term 5,sensible timed flights reasonable comparison in price when you have finished all the 'add ons'!

Try the Hotel Touring, this is a low key hotel but has a small roof terrace with tub, and a view where you can either have drinks, or a meal. It is only 5mins walk from the centro and there is wi fi and a good breakfast. first time in any hotel in Europe a choice of lactose free foods and drinks were there without asking! Bonus...
