In the perspective of the seven people killed, hundreds injured, and thousands homeless, I'm not particularly concerned about the ham and cheese.
And perhaps it would be simpler to post a "how to see all the London Daily Telegraph's stories about Italy " link, rather than dragging out each one in turn?
bvlenci, in perspective the damage to cheese storehouse could be more impactant on a family that an house damaged. Did you never listen about the "cheese banks"? The Parmigiano is used in Emilia like a warranty to have money for investment. With the cheese wheels destroyed you must refund the money ad you wont have other money in the future until the stock is created again (and could take years).
There are several cooperatives and privates who own cheese wheels in this storehouse, exactly like other ones have stocks. For some companies the economic impact of a Parmigiano storehouse destroyed is like the Greek.
