Distance from Rome (FCO) airport to cruise terminal

We're (2 couples) taking a Carnival cruise in May departing in Rome. We plan to stay in Rome 2 nights before the cruise. Is it best to rent a car at airport or use metro transportation to Rome and back to cruise terminal?

It's about 50 miles and an hour's drive from the port to Rome. You could contact RomeCabs, (email them from their site) www.utenti.lycos.it/romecabs, and they will pick you up at your hotel and drive you to the port in a Mercedes Mini-van for about 115 Euros for up to 4 people. Comfortable, easy, they handle the luggage, on-time. We've used them several times and have been very pleased.

Jill you will not need a car in Rome and will not be able to drive in the centre anyway. I also recommend Romecabs.com to pick you up at the airport and bring you to your hotel and then bring you back to the cruise terminal on your sail day. The cruise company can also do this.

Did you go to cruisecritic.com? There will be a roll call for your ship and sail date and you can even share a ride to the ship and share the cost if you are interested.

I am taking the Carnival Splendor grand med. cruise 9/23. I am using romecabs again(used them when I visited 12/06 and they were great). Even used them for a tour.

Our family planed a trip to Rome by the end of this month. We found ItalyCab from the Internet and conatct them for a quote for a round airport-hotel transportion service. Marco replied us promptly and the quote sounds good without anything hidden or attached. Then, we did a Internet search in order to find out how the company is doing. That is why we landed here.

We do not care who Bob is. We fully understand the competitive nature of the businese, especially when a honest family-operated small business must face the competition of big companies as well as a swarm of dishonest taxi drivers in the city. Even the CEO of a big/famous corp did self promotionin anonymously in dicussion forums.

Hoever, at least we didn't find any bad words about ItalyCab. So we decide to put our trust on this company. We will let know what happen after our trip.

A cheaper alternative, if you do not have too much luggage, is to use the trains. The Leonardo Express travels from the airport to Rome Termini (the main station) every half hour for €11 per adult. Similarly, there are two trains an hour from Termini to Civitavecchia for €4.50.
