110 Bus route vs Hop-on/Hop-off bus

am I right in thinking these are 2 buses with basically the same route but run by two different companies--the 110 is a Rome city bus and the Hop-on/Hop-off bus is run by private co--

and the hop-on has an audio tour as well which the 110 does not have...

if they do have similar route, what would be the number difference in the riders for 110 bus vs Hop-on/Hop-off?

Would it have more people getting on and off at stops

I know the Archeo bus has different stops/route

The ATAC red city bus #110 is a hop on hop off tour that covers over 80 sightseeing destinations. The route will take 2.5 hours with a plug in audio guide. It is a wonderful way to get an overview of the city. The ticket is good for 24 hours. Sit on top in the front for the best view. You can get the bus at the Termini station.

I am no authority on Rome but the bus we took from the Termini bus station was certainly a No 110 and was used as a hop-on/hop-off. Whether there is an alternative I do not know.

To answer your question, yes, the 110 bus and the hop on/off bus are the same. It is a big red bus. There are other hop on/off buses but this is the most popular and widely used.

An important tip--Tho they say you can get on and buy a ticket at any stop along the way, very often they are full and you can't. We wasted over an hour at the Colosseum trying to get on--so many passed us by. To be sure of a seat, go buy your ticket at the special kiosk at Termini and wait there.

Another tip if you have the patience: We waited til we could be first on the bus and pick our seats. The view from the lower level is poor. The best seats are on top and in front. It's amazing!

agree about the seating--

thought there were two separate buses--

so if it is a city bus then the Roma Pass works for it == correct?

The Roma Pass entitles you to a discount for the hop-on/hop-off bus. It is not included.
