The best map on line for Italian towns is www.tuttocitta.it but it is only in Italian. It is easy to use as you only have to digit the adress.

I also like www.abcroma.com.

The very best street maps for Italian cities (and other cities in the word) is RED MAP. Cant be beat. You can buy it on Amazon.

FYI - if you go to google and enter in the street address and city of your hotel, and then click the "Maps" link above the box, you'll get a map you may consider useful (at least for online use). You can zoom in and out, and it will show the location of nearby train/metro stations.

We bought the "streetwise Rome" on amazon.com and one day I saw it in Barnes and Noble. It's compact and very easy to read.
