St. Peter's Basilica.

We booked a tour with the vatican tours. On their website it says that the tour takes you through the vatican museum and sistine chapel, does it also include St. Peter's Basilica?

No, after the tour you leave via the exits at the back of the Sistine Chapel. You will then be right next to the Basillica and can head on in on your own.

Someone posted that their tour did not include St. Peter's Basilica, so they had to go out and wait another 2-3 hrs to get in. Is that true? Is the wait that long? do you have to pay or is it free?

Hello,

The basillica is free to go into. After you exit the sistine chapel you will be able to enter the basillica without waiting in line. I have only seen a line to take the elevator to the top of the dome not to enter the basillica, though they may have changed that since March.

Once you come out of the Sistine Chapel you are right next to St Peter's basillica and past the security. You can just walk straight into St Peter's. You do not have to queue.

The only queue for the Basilica was to get through security. And make sure you are appropriately dressed (carry a scarf if bare shoulders or shorts)or you will be turned back. After this the queues can be quite long for the climb to the Dome (don't miss it -it's amazing!) or for the grottoes (separate queues for each).
