Been on the Termini website and decided my Italian is rubbish. Could someone tell me the standard fares Rome - Naples, and the local fare on to Pompeii Scavi. Details for Two adults and two children under 10yrs return needed, will be travelling first week April 07. Thanks to any help. Oh yes! , cheapest prefered even though eurostar is faster, thanks.

Dear algekeuk,

From Napoli to Pompei Scavi, it's a UnicoCampania Facia 3 U3 €2.30 ticket which you can buy from the newsstand within the temporary Napoli Piazza Garibaldi Circumvesuviana Train Station area. You can also buy your ticket from the tobacconist outside Napoli Centrale FS Train Station next to McDonald's or from the newsstands near platforms #14 and #28 in Napoli Centrale FS Train Station.

From Roma Termini to Napoli a 2 hour InterCity Plus/ICPlus train with a reservation would be €25.50 for an adult and €13.30 for a child 4-12 years of age. For a 1 hour 45 min ES Eurostar 1st class train ticket, it'd be €30 for an adult and €18 for a 1st class child's ticket. If by chance your train arrives in Napoli Piazza Garibaldi, head up the stairs, walk left, and head up the escalator to Napoli Centrale FS Train Station. There's an information booth right near the escalator and there's a Courtesy Point Kiosk near platform #28 (also one at the Pompei Scavi/Villa Dei Misteri Circumvesuviana Station). After you buy your UnicoCampania U3 Fascia 3 tickets, you can head right (follow the blue and white signs) to the Napoli Piazza Garibaldi Circumvesuviana Station and icheck the timetables for the Sorrento-bound Circumvesuviana. Stamp your ticket and head downstairs to the proper platform. You need to exit after around 30-45 minutes later at the Pompei Scavi/Villa Dei Misteri stop.

The regional train will cost €10.12 per adult and €5.10 for children.

Buona Fortuna...

Many thanks to kkushiba1 for their reply, it has been a great help. Will take the regional train as we`ll be on a budget and do not want to be restricted timewise to a coach tour. Will probably decide on times better once in Rome but if anyone can help on train times even better, and many thanks again.

Dear algekeuk,

By the way, more trains tend to run on Mondays-Saturday. However, it's good to go to Pompei on Sundays as it's always open while sometimes in the smaller cities museums and monuments are open only Mon-Sat.

A regional train from Roma to Napoli takes around 2 hours and 41 minutes and it can be rather interesting just to see all the smaller towns along the way. When you get off the train in Napoli Centrale, buy a ticket for Pompei Scavi/Villa Dei Misteri from the newsstand near platform #14 and #28, and head left (trains at your back) to the temporary Napoli Piazza Garibaldi Circumvesuviana Train Station. If your train from Roma arrives at Napoli Piazza Garibaldi, just head up the two flights of stairs and head left to take the escalators up to Napoli Centrale FS Train Station. You can also buy a ticket for Pompei at the newsstand in the Napoli Piazza Garibaldi Circumvesuviana area. Check the LED lit timetable for trains to Sorrento and then stamp your ticket and head down the stairs to the proper platform. The stop to get off will be Pompei Scavi/Villa Dei Misteri.

Buona Fortuna...

Dear algekeuk,

For the Trenitalia Web site, you can at least see which Regional trains you can take for the dates you're interested in. In "Leaving From?" you can type "Roma" and for "Going to?' you can type "Napoli." Then you can choose the dates and approximate times of travel using the pull-down menus then you can click "SEND."

http://www.trenitalia.com/en/index.html

If you don't see any "R" regional trains under the column "Trains," then you can click "Edit travel details" to choose an earlier departure time or you can click "Other options" to choose trains at later times. Currently, on Sat Apr 7, there's one regional train from Roma Termini FS Train Station to Napoli Centrale FS Train Station which leaves at 10:49am and arrives at 1:28pm. Otherwise, there's a 6:49am train from Roma Termini which arrives in Napoli Centrale at 9:30am.

Buona Fortuna...

I plan to travel in August and spend time in Rome,Pompei and Paestum. I am trying to find the price of train fares on the Regionale trains from Naples to Pompei, from Pompei to Paestum and from Paestum to Salerno.

The Trenitalia site does not display prices for the Regionale trains.

This will be for a party of 4 (myself, my wife, our son aged 17 and daughter aged 13)
