Naples accommodation and trips

Naples accommodation and trips

Hello to all,

I booked my air tickets to Naples. I'll be staying along with my gf for 5 days in about a month.

Could you please direct me to what parts of the city I should look for a room? I'm looking for an area that has good connections, is near to some attractions and food and is not in a dangerous part of the city.

Also, I'd appreciate any advice regarding the places near Naples. I believe I have some time to make a couple of visits, but I don't know what is worth it and what could possibly be a tourist trap. Pompeii, Amalfi, Sorrento, Capri etc. I want to organize my days and I'd like to know which ones are considered a must.

Likes: Places for photos (it's my hobby), good food, museums

Not so important: Shopping, swimming

We'd like to avoid very long distances especially with roads with many turns (I know this is a problem there), also places crowded with tourists (if this is possible).

I've been lurking in the forum and searched some topics, but I'd like to know if something has changed.

Thanks

You might try the top questions about Naples on the right side of the page. This one should give you some guidance about hotels.

You need to sift through the info and see what appeals to you, then state your budget and preferred areas. You will get many opinions.- I personally like to stay just the other side of Via Toledo from Spanish Quarter. Other people hate that area. The central station area is near transportation, but most agree it is ugly and not the best place to stay. As long as you are near a metro stop, transportation isn't a big problem.

You may need to do the same for attractions and pick out what appeals to you and your gf, then solicit advice.

Good luck. Looking forward to seeing what you choose.

Thanks for your answer. After reading the link I decided to book a room near the Toledo Metro Station, a bit from the other side to the Spanish Quarter, near Via Medina. I hope it is a good choice. It seems to be in a walking distance from both the port and the Spanish Quarter from what I understand.

I still need to organize the trips away from Naples and any piece of advice would be appreciated.

I understand that there are ferries for Capri and Ischia, but the Amalfi coast is only reached throught Sorrento?

So...

1. Should I choose between Capri and Ischia or go to both?

2. Can I do the Amalfi coast in one day? If so, what places do you suggest?

3. Pompeii needs a day by itself or can it be combined?

4. Am I forgetting anything out of Naples?

Thanks again.

Is there a purpose for staying in Naples if you want to leave it every day and sightsee elsewhere?

Ι'm staying around 6 days, so my plan is to do at least 3 days in Naples and the other 3 in other places. As Capri-Ischia are both very near to Naples, I don't find any reason to stay elsewhere. That's why I'm asking which other destinations to choose. I won't be going to every place and I plan to spend one day for Amalfi only.

Choose one between Ischia or Capri.

On Amalfi Coast there are a lot of place to visit: Sorrento, Amalfi, Positano. But I can advice you to spend just 1 day and 1 night.

Pompeii is visitable in 0,5 day but you have to walk a lot there

I advice you to spend more time in Napoli. Visit the historical center that s the biggest one recognized by Unesco. Visit the 3 castles, Vomero, Chiaia and all the seafront. Maybe you can do a kayak tour to enjoy Napoli by the sea and spend 1 day on the beach!
