Train Rome Airport/Naples Train station/Sorrento

I want to take the train from Rome airport to Naples train station where I will catch the smaller train to Sorrento. Do I catch the train right in the Rome airport direct to Naples? When I reach Naples, can I catch the smaller train to Sorrento from the same train station or somewhere else? As few changes as possible as we are not youngsters anymore.

Trains from FCO airport run only into Rome: it would be impossible to provide direct services to every part of Italy from the small airport station.

You have to take the Leonardo Express from FCO to Rome Termini (the main station) and change there for a train to Naples Centrale. There you go down into the basement and catch the suburban Circumvesuviana train to Sorrento.

You can buy tickets from FCO to Naples at the station at FCO, but the Circumvesuviana tickets have to be bought at Naples.

More direct to take bus to Sorrento direct from Termini. It's a longer ride but goes straight to Sorrento train station and bypasses Naples

The bus to Sorrento does not leave from Termini: it leaves from Tiburtina. And it appears that at present there is only one service each day, leaving at 15.00 and arriving Sorrento at 19.00. Not all that convenient.

Thank you for your replies but so far no "bingos". I have also been checking into private drivers or shuttles and they have been VERY expensive - 500 to 800 Euro. I may end up taking a private car a portion of the way and then train the rest of the way. Probably will take train from Rome airport to Rome train station and then train to Naples. From there I think we will do private car as it will then take us directly to our apartment rather than adding a taxi to the mix. Let me know if this idea is off-base.

You certainly can do this. I think a private car from Naples train station to Sorrento would cost in the order of €120, which is rather more than the suburban train. Your choice, obviously.

We paid €80 for 3 people from Naples airport to our apartment in Sorrento. I've used 3 different car services along the Amalfi Coast (and Sorrento) with good results.

Their contact info is:
