Beginner's guide to the SITA bus timetables - V2

If taking a SITA bus to explore the Amalfi Coast or elsewhere in Campania, the current timetables can be found under the heading, "Orari Campania, Gruppo di Salerno" - at the end here:

http://www.sitasudtrasporti.it/index.html

... but wait until just before travelling to 'harvest' them, as updates come out fairly frequently!

These are the words and phrases behind the codes you'll see used most often:

G = GIORNALIERA/DAILY ... Every day

F = CORSE FERIALI/WORKING DAYS .... Every day bar Sundays, unless a public holiday

L = SOLO FERIALI. LUNEDI-VENERDI ... From Mon to Fri, unless a public holiday

H = FESTIVA/SUNDAY AND HOLIDAYS ... On Sundays and on public holidays

S = SCOLASTICA/SCHOOL DAYS ... On school days (query, if also a public holiday?)

N = NON SCOLASTICO/NO SCHOOL DAYS ... On non-school days (same query)

Locally both the working week and the school week normally run from Monday to Saturday!

LUNEDI - Monday

MARTEDI - Tuesday

MERCOLEDI - Wednesday

GIOVEDI - Thursday

VENERDI - Friday

SABATO - Saturday

DOMENICA - Sunday

A few others:

PRIMAVERA - spring

ESTATE - summer

AUTUNNO - autumn

INVERNO - winter

ORARI - timetables

TARIFFE - fares

DA - from

PER - either for or to

SI EFFETTUA DAL.... A.... / Runs from.. until...

SI EFFETTUA IN GUIGNO E LUGLIO / Runs in June and July

TERMINA A.... / Terminates at....

CORSE SOLO... / Runs only...

Most of the place names are the same, but with NAPOLI being Naples!

Peter

PS:

For those who've not visited recently, services have been slashed on routes such as:

AMALFI - VIETRI (Tramonti) - POMPEI - NAPOLI

... and appear to have ended completely on:

NAPOLI - SORRENTO - POSITANO - AMALFI

Any time now, expect to see new versions for some of the timetables in the Campania section, at the very end of the page here:

http://www.sitasudtrasporti.it/index.html

SITA have an advisory note there, to say that the area's schools services are to start on 13/09/2012.... however, on the new schedules services marked with an N (for non scolastica) will be active between 10/9 and 12/9.

But knowing that is of little use until they actually get round to posting those updated versions!

Thank you for this helpful information! The "G" buses run on Sunday as well, correct?

Like it says above....

"G = GIORNALIERA/DAILY ... Every day"

Even in Italy, Sunday's a day!

Ok! Just wanted to double check!! Also I am looking at the SITA time table for Sorrento to Positano and on the schedule it says it only stops at Chiesa Nuova? Do the buses not stop at Sponda anymore?

Isn't that funny - as recently as this last winter, even the first few SITA SUD timetables were still listing one of those two stops in one direction, and the other in the other!

But the version I'm looking at as I write doesn't... just the Church:

sitasudtrasporti.it/public/…5070.pdf

Pretty sure both are still in use - so it may be no more than tidiness, a new broom in the timetable PDF department perhaps?

The SITA bus makes more stops along its routes than those listed in the schedules, which are for general reference purposes. For example, it makes three stops in Maiori, even though the schedules list only one stop. The bus makes a few stops between Amalfi and Ravello, which again are not noted in the schedules. So, I would not worry about the limited stops which are shown for Positano.

One thing... those who use Firefox may find it difficult to get the most recent editions (released only yesterday?), if they've already downloaded older versions...

Whilst it ought to be possible to clear out previous downloads, or whatever, the only way I've yet found to access them is by using a different browser!

For example, to more clearly indicate the various routes taken, this....

sitasudtrasporti.it/public/…5070.pdf

.... should be showing some entries coloured in orange/brown, and others in a blue/purple.

If it's not, Google Chrome is quick and easy to download and install!
