Angelo Stinca a great Driver

May 20-26, 2009. During our recent trip to Italy we arranged transfer from the Rome Fiumicino airport to our Hotel in Sorrento, a full day trip to Paestum and the Amalfi Coast: Ravello, Amalfi, Positano, and a transfer from our Hotel in Sorrento to the Naples Airport. We selected Angelo Stinca, based on his web site (www.angelodriver.com ) and glowing recommendations from reviews in Trip Advisor and other sites. This was one of the best decisions of our trip. Angelo is Mr. Personality! He speaks English very well and does not smoke. He is prompt, courteous, and very knowledgeable about the area, AND he is a SAFE DRIVER! He made helpful suggestions regarding our trip down the Amalfi Coast so that we could spend more time at Paestum. He also recommended an excellent restaurant (outside the walls of Paestum) where they make buffalo mozzarella (La Fattoria Del Casaro). Because of traffic, it took us an additional hour to get back to the hotel. Since we had arranged the cost of the trip on a fixed fee basis, Angelo did not ask for any additional money for the trip. Needless to say we gave him a good tip for his efforts. Having checked with other services, Angelo’s prices are very competitive. If you are staying in the Sorrento area and are coming from Rome, it is well worth the cost to arrange to have Angelo pick you up. It eliminates the hassle of three train transfers (with luggage) and the need for a taxi once you get to Sorrento. My wife and I would highly recommend Angelo Stinca!

Hi

It would be helpful if you could tell us how much you paid for the various trips.

Kinzy

Of your four posts, two are commercials for this driver in Sorrento, and the other two are commercials for a tour guide in Sicily. This might cause some people to doubt your motives.

How about you tell us about a wider variety of your experiences in Italy?

I wonder if you are Angelo or an Angelo relative.

besides who cares what a great driver, what kind of personality, how it eliminates there need for 2 luggage transfers, etc if you do not post how much all this costs? Many of us handle all the luggage transferring because the cost of a private driver is almost 10 times the cost of the trains (300 euros for a private driver from Rome FCO to Sorrento verus 46 to 36 euros for the train from FCO to termini(11 euros0, to Naples (22-38 euros, and then the Circumvesiana, 2 euros).

When I get to Sorrento, I walk with my rollie to my hotel or B&B becaseu after all that luggage hauling, what' a few more blocks of walking when Sorrento isn't very big.

I just had to add my 2 cents to this post about Angelo. My family used his services in October 2008 while in Sorrento and found him to be everything mentioned here. Angelo was polite, a careful driver and very knowledgeable. We hired him to drive us on our search for our lost family roots and he spent the entire day with us as both driver and guide. Now I do apologize because I don't recall what we paid but I do remember it was very competitive to other options we had available.

He did such a great job for us that day that we hired him again a few days later and he took us on a full day's tour of the Amalfi Coast. He made that day an absolute joy for us: Arranging special meals for us in advance at various restaurants along the way; taking us to off-the-road sights etc. We quickly learned he is known by everyone along the Amalfi Coast which makes sense since this is his way of making a living.

He is worth considering if you should be visiting Sorrento.

It is good that you found this driver very helpful, but there are so many one off posts praising certain drivers guides etc sometimes it does see like a put up job,

Have to agree with sophie8.

Sounds like yet another put up job posted just to advertise a driver - there are so many of these kinds of posts on TA nowadays.

Hello TA - no advertising or solicitation of any kind? How do you monitor this?

Knowing the high costs of private drivers/guides, compared to public transport, I can't imagine anyone not being able to recall how much they paid, even if it was a year ago. I'd be more believing if they at least gave a rough figure like 200/250/300 euro, but to say they can't remember just doesn't ring true unless they're so rich it doesn't matter.

All summer long we had to hear about fantastic drivers from dubious posters. Now we're in the dark of winter and they still continue. It's getting rather annoying!

I agree that this looks very dubious but the problem for TA is that plenty of people including some of the posters to this thread have reccomended other drivers and it is where to draw the line unless you ban all posts about private drivers as it seems to be a growing problem.

More so when these are very first time posters or almost new to the forum, different I feel when regular posters recommend especially when the advice is asked for,
