My family including 4 sons (9,7,5,3) will be in Tuscany for a week in late July (Sat to Sat farm/villa rental) as part of our month + trip around Italy. We have a rental car and will be driving from Rome on the arrival day and departing for L'Aquila on the way out. Our rental home is between Florence and Siena somewhat close to Badia a Passignano.
We have the entire week open and unplanned at this point. We'd like to mix and match full busy days with a few less strenuous days to give the boys time to relax and swim at our properties' nice pool.
We know we want to show the boys the tower in Pisa (I know under 8 can't climb the tower but they really want to see it) and are thinking of a relatively short stay there with more of the day in Lucca.
A day in Siena and a day in Florence are also on our list.
What are some suggestions for nice drives, kid friendly activities, towns/villages to visit, sights to see?
The day we arrive we will probably just relax and enjoy the property and pool and the day we leave we need to meet up with family for a wedding the next day. That gives us 6 full days of exploring.
Thanks for your help and suggestions
