Help please: Southern italy travel plan advice

Hi,

I am asking for help for a trip for southern Italy. If you can comment on my plan and give some help, it will be great.

Plan

1) Rome : 4 + 2 nights

Colleseum, Forums, catacombs, Vatican museum at least. Will also take a day trip to Florence.

2) Rome to Naples / Sorrento : 4,5 nights

Will take train from Rome to Naples. Not sure where to stay. Want to see Pompeii, Archeological museum, Capri, Amalfi coast drive

3) Back to Rome and fly out

Interests: history, nature, food.

Questions:

1) Sorrento is pretty but Naples is cheaper. Is it safe and clean to stay in Naples? Where to stay? I will have luggage and will travel by train. Any suggestions on which neighbourhood to stay in?

2) I want an escorted tour for Amalfi coast drive. I don't want to take city buses and not sure if I can afford private car + security issue. Don't want to drive myself either. But, I cannot find any group tour for just amalfi coast drive out of Naples or Sorrento. Would like to see Positano, Ravello and Amalfi.

3) I am looking at italiatours.com. Has anyone had any experience with their tours and is it good?

4) Many of the websites are in Italian and I cannot see any place to see "english" version of it. So, any list of good websites that will help me plan better?

5) I don't know any italian. Will that be an issue in this region?

I realize there are many restrictions I have put but it is what it is. Any help you give is much appreciated.

1. Naples can be a bit rough. Many posters love it, it scares others to death. So I really can't advise on this bit.

2. There are bus tours out of Sorrento, Golden Tours I think from memory. There is a bit of a hard sell at a toilet ( shop) stop, and for a boat trip in Amalfi and lunch at a cafe. The lunch was OK and reasonable value. We declined the boat trip.

3. Can't assist

4. Put the URL of the website into www.translate.google.com and choose your language. It will give a reasonable translation.

5. Learn a few words, hello, goodbye, please, thank you, and I don't speak Italian, do you speak English please. Also, please, where is the toilet? Again, put any of these into google translate, select you languages and click on the loudspeaker icon to hear them pronounced.

Thank you very much. Are there any areas of Sorrento that you can recommend to be good value? I will have a teenager with me and will be travelling by train with luggage.

We stayed at Le Magnolia, a nice small B&B just off Piazza Tasso, so very central. B&Bs in Italy are more like small hotels than a room in someone's house, and the owner may not live on site at all.

Absolutely central but no noise as it is about 100 yards down a side street. No pool though if you want that.

The train station is about half a kilometre away. You may be able to get a taxi
