Italian Beach holiday with teenagers

Hi all, would love some suggestions about where would be great to go in Italy for an Italian beach holiday. Would love to be able to meet other families too. Happy to consider the islands. We'll be going in August so aware that it will be packed and hot! Villas or hotels or B and Bs - don't mind. Many thanks for any advice

Depends what you want exactly. There are a number of main "beach" holiday destinations. They include Lido di Jesolo near Venice, Rimini and Forte dei Marmi. The areas of Rimini and Forte dei Marmi are for me hugely disappointing as they are hugely over commercialised. The large stretches of beach/beach front are just dominated by Hotels with the associated "Bagno/Bagni" (beach emplacements) where if you are not with a Hotel have to pay for "Ombrello" (sun lounger/umbrella). I have seen prices from 12euros a day in Rimini to a ridiculous 65euros in Forte dei Marmi.

Even if you are with a Hotel often only 1 or max 2 sunbeds included in price.

Around Rimini the area of Viserbella is well known as a family destination. You may have problems getting there however as I believe many airlines have pulled out of flying to Rimini. Rimini itself is more popular with the young Italians with its plethora of Nightclubs/Discos

Lido di Jesolo would be far easier to get to with many flights available to Venice Marco Polo and Treviso. Lido di Jesolo very popular with northern european families. Many campsites in the area and sometimes late night music can be heard in some areas.

Something different and a lot quieter but also less commercialised is the area of Puglia. More very reasonable accommodation becoming available and new builds.

If you want family accommodation why not try something like www.holiday-rentals.co.uk

Just to add if you consider Jesolo you might want also to consider up to Caorle.

Take a look at the little towns/resorts along the Italian Riviera, I think it is more scenic than the Adriatic coast and there is a railway running between the towns so you could do some exploring.

Also, there is the Versilian coast in Tuscany - you could take days out to Pisa. Lucca, Siena or Florence. You mentioned islands, the island of Elba is just off the Tuscan coast - I have only been there for a day, and that was a long time ago, but I thought it was beautiful, it was June and the glorious bougainvillea was everywhere.

Good luck!

This is all great advice with which to start my research! Many thanks, I think we would like to avoid over-commercialisation and if there is an opportunity to go sight seeing, well, that sounds ideal. No-one has mentioned Sardinia yet or even Sicily, I have done a bit of exploring on TA already but would love any other thoughts on these two, Similarly, Elbe sounds interesting as a possibility.

My kids are also really active - does that narrow it down?! I hate to mention this, but my husband is a golfer,,,,,just wondering.....

Thanks again all, Very much appreciated,

Unlike Spain and Portugal where it is very easy to combine Golf with beach (I am a golfer myself) in italy less so. You will find a course wherever you choose but you will have to be willing to drive. You won't for example get a large choice like going to Marbella where the number may run into double figures in a 20min drive radius.

You will certainly find a good selection of golf courses on Sardinia. A number around Punta Cervo (quite an expensive area to stay) and other main destinations on the island.

Green fees can vary greatly across Italy. You could pay 40euros green fee but also 120euros - and a non-championship course
