Good areas to stay in Rome

Hi, Im planning 2 week solo trip to Italy in November and wanted to know which are the good areas to stay in Rome, Venice, Florence and Milan? Also, any recommended hotels/ hostels?

We stayed in the Monti area in July. Very central, and an easy walk to the Coliseum, Trevi etc. Two years ago we spent five days in the Trastevere. This area goes crazy at night, but our apartment was in a very quiet street, the Via Dei Riari. The Trastevere is right on the river, making navigation relatively easy.
