Best way to get from Madrid to Brussels?

I'm going to Madrid in October with friends from the states and wanted to take a quick trip to Brussels. Any recommendations on favorite airlines or ones you'd avoid? Is there a train or another alternate way to travel? I'd appreciate any advice.

Train would take twelve hours and involve crossing Paris by Metro.

There is also an overnight 'Trenhotel' between Madrid and Paris.

There is no quick method to go to Brussels other than plane (as train/car/bus is at least 12+ hours)

there are 4 flight companies that go from Madrid to Brussels: Iberia, Vueling, AirEuropa and Ryanair. First 3 go to Zaventem airport while last one goes to Charleroi airport (about 50km south of Brussels)

Don't bother using Iberia Airlines. We were getting a flight from Madrid to Venice - we are from Australia had just finished a Tour round Spain, Portugal & Morocco. Had paid, been allocated a seat months prior. This Airline had overbooked by 10 people which apparently is what they do on all flights! 3 of us traveling waiting in standby.... With 9 others who turned up to be told 1 could get on & must go as they only had 2 vacant seats on the next flight SEVEN hours later. Husband left sat in Venice Airport while we sat in Madrid. We're compensated 250 euro which is now law in Europe because this is a common practice. Goes on a scale of 0-1400 kms - 250 euro, 1401 over 400 euro - our flight was 1396! So they tell us. Get on flight 7 hrs later to find 22 vacant seats!!! Lost money on our private transfers & tour in Venice not to mention a wasted day when we only had 3 in Venice & spent to sitting at an airport, not happy.

We used to fly Ryanair all the time. People always complain about them, but we never had any problems with them and always found their flights to be cheap and easy. It's kind of the public bus of the airline industry. But compared to Iberia, they are heaven! And we've been on that Madrid – Venice leg. It's always abominable!
