One night where to stay in Madrid?

One night where to stay in Madrid?

Flying in and out of Madrid to attend a function in Malaga. We will only have the late afternoon and evening of the last day in Madrid before we need to catch a morning flight home. We are hoping for some recommendations about neighborhoods - places to stay things to do / eat in our very limited time. Since we’ve got a morning flight, my guess is we should stick fairly close to the airport. We love people watching and marketplaces and good local food. Any help is appreciated.

There isn't much to see right around the airport, but there are a number of hotels that are just a short walk from the Barajas Metro stop (it's the one between the Aeropuerto T1, T2, and T3 stop and the one for Aeropuerto T4),it's about 30 minutes to the Nueovos Ministerios stop, and from there you could take Cercanias C3 and be in Puerta del Sol in less than 10 minutes.

Personally on a stop like yours, we usually stay close to the train station. In our case we are usually coming in by train so stay in Atocha. But since you are doing a roundtrip from the airport you could stay anywhere on the C-1 route. Puerto del Sol requires a connection and while it isn’t difficult it adds time and would be too much for me.

There is nothing to see at airport hotels except other airport hotels. Better to stay downtown.

There is a good hotel across the street from the Atocha Station called Hotel Only you Atocha.

There are many good tapas bars at Calle Cava Baja. Do your own tapas tour here.
