Stop over on way to Madrid

Hi,

we are driving from Lisbon to Madrid and have planned for a one night stopover on the way. I am thinking either Caceres or Merida. Is one preferable to the other?

Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

Thanks

You cannot go wrong with either, both very interesting places to visit and UNESCO world heritage sites. If you can only visit one place, my advice is to look at images and You Tube clips and select the one which draws you in most.

Merida for its Roman heritage and then stop at Trujillo on the way to Madrid.

I love to see the Roman Museum in Merida. This is an astounding museum that should be seen.

In Merida you can buy chocolate covered figs that are called "higos".

Thanks for the advice. We will probably stop in Merida.
