Best beach? Which area to stay?

My best friend and I have booked flights to Barcelona end July and her colleagues recommended us to go to Sitges instead of Barcelona as we have already been there, although we're totally in love with the place. Tried to check Sitges out but seing that there are 17 beaches and not having a clue about the town, in what area should we look for accomodation? Should possibly also add that we do enjoy trendy restaurants/nightlife and are in our mid 30's. Thanks!

Sitges is a fairly small town so you're never far from the right beach for you and your friend or from the bars and restaurants. If you look at the tripadvisor map showing all hotels you'll get the picture. For convenience you can argue Sitges is split into two – North of the church with San Sebastian beach and the lovely new pedestrainised promenade with very busy restaurants and cafes. Another 5 mins along the coast you get the naturist beach and then the marina – again with many restaurants. South of the church is a long beach split into smaller sections – each section gets quieter the further away from the church you get. This southern beach is classed as the main tourist beach. There are beach restaurants on the sections close to the church.

Accommodation depends on how much you want to pay. For your first visit and being as it's a short one I'd recommend you stay in one of the beach facing hotels so you can get you your bearing. Again look at the tripadvisor map and check out the comments made by others. The Calipolis is the best hotel on that stretch (don't be put off by its TA 18th ranking) and being as the pool is rubbish there and you want the beach you'll be well suited. The Platjador, La Nina and Subur are 3 other hotels on this busy seafront area.

Sitges is lovely. The benefit to having accommodation on the sea front is that when you get lost – and you will – you just head for the sea. The centre is a maze of little streets so get yourself a map – the gay guides do the best ones and they are free in all the gay bars – you can print one off one line.
