Hotel Terramar & Surroundings

We're staying at the Terramar next week and noticed in one of the postings that it's a bit of a walk into town. Anyone know how far this is?

Also I'm looking to play some golf at Club de Terramar, anyone got any views on this course?

Its about 30 minutes slow stroll, but a very nice walk as you pass all the great mansions and soak up the sea air.

Good news is there is also a little open air bus that does the journey about every 45 minutes I think, for just 1 euro.

Cant help you on the golf course, sorry.

As mentioned it´s about a 30 minute stroll to the center of Sitges. Just a little advice. Be very careful or take a taxi going back to the Terramar late at night. A friend of mine was mugged on the promenade between Picnic and the Terramar after a late night in Sitges a couple of years ago .

Dave, Phil,

Thanks for the feedback, very much appreciated. A 30 minute stroll sounds like a nice way to build up the appetite.

Planning a trip to Sitges for late September. Just can't choose where to stay the reviews are so very different !

Terramar sounded ok, what was it like ?

Also thinking of Hesperia Castelldefels !

Help us choose !

We are two ladies ( no not Gay !) celebrating the all clear from breast cancer, this trip is important as you can imagine. We like a nice pool at a hotel. Good restaurants nearby ( no prob with that from what we have read) like to get into the atmosphere but at the same time have some peace and quiet at times too ! are we difficult to please ? any suggestions welcome. Thanks

PLease, please choose Sitges over Castelldefels, as the latter is so very quiet and relatively uninteresting.

Don't worry about the gay aspect of Sitges...unless the sight of two men holding hands offends you, you are unlikely to find it a problem, the whole town is just so very friendly and mixed and will raise your spirits no end.

The old town, the church jutting into the sea, the beautiful mansions, steep streets, wrought iron and wonderful gardens.....the place is uplifting, beautiful, elegant, soulful, historic, artistic, colourful, and exciting. Looking out over the bay at sunset or sunrise is quite an experience.

What you WONT find is high-rise, yobs, wild parties (except behind hidden closed doors of clubs late at night - and the sound laws mean they are silent outside) or any kind of tackiness - it isn't Blackpool or Benidorm.

You'll eat in restaurants you can't imagine existed, and although not cheap, places like Flamboyent, al Fresco, el Xalet and Olivers make it a meal out to remember, and the Picnic Bar which is right on the beach opposite the Calipolis Hotel is superb for a nice snack or meal at a reasonable price looking right out over the sea.

As for hotels, a sea view room at the Calipolis (ask for a higher floor) takes some beating - leave the big patio doors to the balcony open and fall asleep to the sound of the waves then eat the best buffet breakfast you can imagine. Or a cheaper alternative at El Xalet, or the mostly-gay but very welcoming to anyone Hotel Liberty. Take early evening drinks in the garden at the Hotel Romantic and see the bar there - one of the worlds greatest cosy corners.

The museums in the church, and the walk along the front to the Terramar past all the colonial mansions are highlights not to be missed, and round off your holiday with a paella at one of the palm-tree lined promenade restaurants like Santa Maria.

You'll be booking for the following year two days after your return.

and dont forget the beach house on carrer san pau, right in the middle of things - its a great little bar / restaurant that does fantastic and really reasonably priced evening meals, and great english breakfasts too. It is small and really friendly and my only regret is that we found it so late in the holiday, cos we were there most days once we had discovered it - especially considering the hotel we had chosen (galeon / pavilion) had such terrible food - wotever you do, dont stay there!!!
