Is it safe to drink tap water in Barcelona?
Yes, it is safe to drink. However, most people drink bottled water, as it tastes better
In Barcelona, I drink the tap water. I haven't noticed any unpleasant taste.
Tap water is safe, even in public fountains (many corners of Eixample) but is not served in bars or restaurants.
When you order water, they bring you bottled water. In most bars and restaurants, water is the cheaper bottled drink of the list,
We found that bottled water was very cheap anyway. I remember stocking up on 2 litre bottles of Aigues de Ribes that were about 40 cents each!
Thats not bad at all! Thank you Tongo79!
I think it tastes horrible and my Catalan friends don't drink it either. Try it and then decide for yourself.
hi,
it's depend on the quartier also, as it's seems the water provide for different sources....but generally speaking people tend to don't drink it and buy botled water...(for the taste)
I, as most people I know here in Barcelona, do not drink the tap water just due to the taste. At least as directly from the tap, since I did buy a filter jar I'm not buying bottled water anymore! Bottled water is very cheap but not that convenient when you have to buy (and carry) it all the time, not to say the environmental impact of so much plastic.
As 5de8 said it depends as well from the area, some are better (or less disgusting) than others. But it is perfectly safe to drink tap water everywhere in the city and region.
Safe to drink but not a nice taste. For home use we buy 5 litre carafes (just over 60 cents) and put them in the recycling afterwards.
Bottled water does not have the huge mark-up in most restaurants here that you experience in many places
Buying bottled water instead of drinking perfectly safe tap water is not a matter of money costs but, as belsaita pointed out, the enviromental costs have to be taken into account. You get used to the taste (if any) quite quick. Unfortunately, all restaurants will serve bottled water.
