A short trip to Barcelona

where is the best neighborhood to rent a flat in Barcelona in terms of acceptability to the public transportation and attractions? Is the district of La Latina a good place to stay in?

We only have 7 days for visiting Madrid and Barcelona. what is the best itinerary for 7 days in total for both cities.

Is it better to fly from Madrid to Barcelona or to take a train?

Downtown Barcelona is the Plaza de Catalunya. A good place to stay is the Eixample.

I have never heard of a district called "La Latina" in Barcelona...

Between Madrid and Barcelona: yes, take the train - unless you are already at the airport for some reason.

La Latina is a district in Madrid, where many of the tapas bars are located. I would visit but not stay there. It's not that convenient for sightseeing or taking the train to/from Barcelona.

www.vueling.com often has tickets that are cheaper/comparable to the AVE train. Book both in advance for the best deal.

Use ita matrix or Kayak to figure out which route to take. Best to fly open jaw into the 1st city and out of the 2nd. Also check Airtransat.

The best itinerary is the one that suits your interests and minimizes backtracking. Group your attractions by area. Buy tickets in advance for the Sagrada Familia and Park Guell. Read the Top Questions or Things To Do page.

Price is not everything when choosing between train and plane. The train is more comfortable and less stressful; you don't have to stand in line or sit around waiting for the best part of your trip; between central Madrid and central Barcelona it's faster than flying; and you're treated as a passenger and not as a potential criminal. All this is worth some money to me... :-)
