Castells at plaça de la catedral every saturday

i've just read on newspaper that every saturday (7pm) till september there are Castells at plaça nova (plaça de la catedral).

it is focused to tourists cos main idea is show catalan traditions so it will be castells and some days castells + other activities like sardanes, ball de bastons, gegants, bèsties, etc a speaker will explain how castells work in catalan, spanish, english and french.

edit: next saturday it is at 7pm, not sure if always is at same time.

Hi, can anyone tell me if this is still happening? We are in Barcelona right now, leaving Sunday morning, and would love to see the castellers in action. Thanks,

Susan,

Unfortunately for you the shows ended in mid-september.

…bcn.cat/en/we-recommend/catalan-traditions-…

Fortunately for you, right now is the Festa Major de Sarrià and the Festa Major de Les Corts.

The Castellers de Barcelona will be performing at Plaça del Consell de la Vila in Sarrià at noon on Saturday. They will also be performing along with the Bordegassos de Vilanova and the Minyons de Terrassa at Plaça Comas on Sunday at 11:30am.

If I were you, I wouldn't miss the one on Sunday. I saw the Minyons de Terrassa during La Mercè and they were quite impressive. The Castellers de Barcelona were also impressive.

Oops, sorry. I forgot the part about you leaving Sunday morning. I guess your only option is Sarrià.

Thanks Monsieur. I did find another link -

barcelonaturisme.com/Agenda-Castellers/_xMCf…

where there is one at Plaça Catedral at 7 PM Saturday. The one at Sarrià might be more 'authentic', but it does look like it might be a bit of a hike to get there as well. I'll have to look at the transit map.

Weather has turned as well - it's overcast and we did have rain yesterday. We may end up looking for indoor activities.

Sarria is not hard to reach and a pleasant, less visited part of the city. I don't know what their Festa Major is like, but i've seen 4 others in the city and if it is on tonight and tomorrow I can only urge you to get down there and have a look. Put the waterproofs on.

Sarria is easy to get to and very quaint. Just take the FGC train lines 1, 2, 5 or 55 from Placa Catalunya or c/ Provenca. Don't miss a stop at the wonderful bakery, Foix de Sarria.

Sounds good. We are staying across from Sant Antoni market (unfortunately under restoration), so close to several metro lines. Thanks,

Wow, so glad we went - it was a highlight of our stay in Barcelona! Nice neighbourhood too. The kids at the top were amazing. Thanks for encouraging us to go. Even the weather cooperated.

Susan,

Glad you went and enjoyed it. And thank the heavens for decent weather. It's hard enough for the little ones to climb up and slide down; wet weather would have been been terrible.
