Is it possible to do a self-guided bike tour of Montjuic?

Specifically, without embarrassing ourselves on the Montjuic hill? I love biking around new cities, but people keep referencing how hard the hill up to Montjuic is. How hard is it, really? Like, make it to the top with some serious exertion hard? Or turn back around hard? We're an active early-30s couple who will be riding some kind of rented, not electric bikes.

Thank you!

It's not "that" hard, yet it's a hill... 600 ft high :)) You can see yourself on Googlemaps that there are roads ascending on a zigzagging pattern hence the slope is more gentle. Know that Montjuïc is often part of many of the races in the city, including the Marathon so one can imagine it's not like this: https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/8/83/Uphill_to_Parc_G%C3%BCell.jpg otherwise we'd be killing the runners, LOL!

Yet renting one of those bikes that are mixed, both regular and electric, wouldn't be a bad idea :)

by bike to the olimpic stadium area can be done without problems if you are fit. going to the top, the castel, is a different question. you can look for "escalada al castell de montjuic" videos and see how the pros had problems climbing around that part.

... yeah, that too, hence that reinforces the idea of a mix bike so you can start the electric engine when "you've had enough", LOL!

How hard is it, really?

It´s a 30 minutes ride uphill (We do it every week).

I m asuming you´re asking for the easiest route from pl. espanya (there are 3 or 4 routes to the castle).

5-10 minutes from pl.espanya to poble espanyol.

5-10 minutes form poble espanyol to olympic stadium.

15 minuts from olympic stadium to castle (hardest part, 8% slopes).

Scheer75 says "15 minuts from olympic stadium to castle (hardest part, 8% slopes)."

If it is 8% slopes what is the other 92% of the 15 minute ride?

Scheer75

Sorry...I was only joking.

I understand an 8 degree slope...an incline of 8 degrees away from the horizontal.

Never biked much but hill-walked and mountain climbed when younger and an incline of just eight degrees for fifteen minutes on the legs would have been no real hardship.

Nowadays after the funicular ride from Paral-lel I would grab the 150 Bus to Castell Montjuic and perhaps walk down. Or a 150 Bus from near Placa Espanya going up.... don't know whether they let bikes onto the 150 Bus or the Cable Car come to that.

Cheers

Anthony
