Quiet campsites on the coast within 40 miles of Santander

Hi- we are taking our campervan to Santander and looking for a small quiet campsite west of Santander on the beach or very near.

We dont want to travel more than 40 miles west to start with but may travel further depending on the weather.

Can anyone recommend any good sites please :)

Small quiet campsite...well there are lots of campsites along this stretch of coast, most close to towns and therefore not small and quiet. One place, I've no idea what it's like, but it's small and I imagine quite quiet as it's not in a town, called Las Arenas, it's near the border with Asturias, near Pechon, and is on the cliffs above a small, quiet beach. The website is not great! But maybe that's a good sign of a quiet, small campsite? http://www.campinglasarenas.com/?q=es This is probably too far for you though, at 70km (It'll take you about an hour on good motorways).

There are also several campsites around the beautiful Oyambre beach, which although a busy beach on sunny days, is quiet at night, as there isn't much else there except for a couple of beachfront restaurants. There's Camping Playa de Oyambre http://www.oyambre.com/index.php, which is 800m from the beach, and Camping Rodero http://www.campingrodero-oyambre.es/, which is about the same, and then there's the beachfront Oyambre Beach http://www.campingoyambrebeach.com/, which is probably the quietest, but also the most difficult to get a place at too I imagine. Oyambre is just past Comillas, and is about 60km from Santander.

If you want closer, you're probably going to get noisier...

Camping Cabo Mayor - Santander (near the lighthouse) - short walk to Mataleñas beach - http://www.cabomayor.com/

Camping Virgen del Mar - Just outside Santander - next to beach - http://campingvirgendelmar.com/

Camping Suances - Suances - in town centre, close to surfing beach and bars - http://www.campingsuances.com/

Camping Santillana - 10 minutes from Tagle/Santa Justa/Suances beaches - http://www.hospederiasantillana.es/

Camping El Helguero - Ruiloba - 10 minutes from Comillas beach - http://www.campingelhelguero.com/camping.htm

Many campsites don't allow prebooking either, unless it's for long periods, so you may just have to turn up and see what's available, don't be surprised by this, it's quite normal here.
