Hi All,

We are off to PDLC in 10 days, spending a week staying at the San Felipe hotel. One of our main reasons for visiting is so that we can go to Loro Parque as my youngest is absolutely crazy about penguins. I'm wondering what other excursions might be worth thinking about? We definitely want to go up Mt Teide and I'd quite like to go to La Orotava. My husband is keen to take a boat trip if any are running at this time of year.

Does anyone have any suggestions of the best way to do this? Is it better to pre book before we leave or to wait til we get there? Would you recommend booking through the hotel or would we get a better deal elsewhere? And what about public transport? Would it be feasible to go to La Orotava on the bus for instance?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Travelling by bus is very easy in Tenerife, from Puerto you can get to La Orotava on the number 101 that would take you right through if you wanted to Santa Cruz. Thae boats do work all year round but they run from the south of the island so you would have that journey before you start the boat trip. My advise would be to "speak" to Tenerife sunshine before you go {online and free}as they do good deals for trips on the island. As for Teide once again Tenerife sunshine do a trip from Puerto. Below are links to the number 101 bus time table and a link to the trips that Tenerife Sunshine do from Puerto {with prices} :0)

Hope this helps

When we were in Tenerife, we asked our hotel for a brochure of escorted trips they had and we were able to see a different one every day.

If you go to Mount Teide, bring a hat or use sun protection. I did not and had a sunburn when I came back. You burn easily at that height.

Most of the experts on this forum recomend Tenerifesunshine for organised outings .However this is done over the telephone , which is something I am not keen on ..

If you want to meet and talk to people , I would recomend the small tourist excursion shop on the same walkway as the Monopol and Marquesa hotels .It is not far from the town square ,and walking from the square ,it is on the left .

One poster mentioned Katie , who works there , and I would agree that she is very good and would give you good advice .(as would the other staff )

tenerifesunshines web page has a live chat facility, which is good for you to use if your planning stuff, before you go and want information.

But when in resort they do have 3 shops

1 down at san eugino

1 near palm beach

1 over the road from colon 2

so when your in resort then you can go and pick your tickets up, which is what we do.

For La Orotava I'd definitely catch the local bus as Sparhawk suggested. The town is situated right behind Puerto and excursions don't always go to all the best spots in La Orotava.

I'd take the 345 which is the main bus link between Puerto and La Orotava and runs about 20 times a day. I catch it on its way back into Puerto and it is slightly cheaper than the 101 or 102.

Going up Teide into the Canadas is definitely a must do!

La Orotava is nice as well, and convenient by public Transport.

If you like to explore a little more, there are nice hiking tours as well, an easy one running along the cost line from Playa Jardin towards the west, with stunning views of the coast.

I recommend to have a rental car for some exploring for a day or two, especially if you like to stop for some great views on the way to Teide, and to see the Anaga mountains. Lots of rental stations in Puerto..

Have a nice stay!
