Wildfires

Hi, we're flying into the south airport tomorrow and traveling up for two weeks in Puerto. Does anyone know if the wildfires are effecting travel in and around the area or causing any other problems nearby?

Hi Deni,

Unless things change drastically, you won't have a problem. I did the journey yesterday and it was absolutely fine.

The worst of the fires are in the far west of the island. The press are using the term 'north' for them but it's a bit misleading if peole don't know the geography.

Anyone in Puerto not keeping an eye on the news will probably be unaware there are fires.

There was one fire in the hills above the north airport but that was brought under control quite quickly.

The worst fires were in the hills way above the Los Gigantes area. These were very bad on Saturday and Sunday. The very welcome news is that the Tenerife Government has anounced this afternoon that these have been stabilised.

They didn't pose any threat to any of the resorts. The biggest threat has been to the countryside and farming communities. People in the main resorts probably wouldn't have been aware they were happening.

Rain would be welcomed with dancing in the streets - by farmers, maybe not by visitors :)

But, if other years are anything to go by, we may have to wait till October for that relief in coastal areas.
