Which Island - Family with young children (3&5yrs)

We're looking to go to the Canary Islands for the first time in early April. We are looking for a family - friendly resort with a sheltered, white sandy beach - our youngest son has a thing about the wind right now (ever since losing his kite in Devon!) so we really want to avoid any exposed, windy beaches! We would prefer to stay in a hotel (B&B) within walking distance of a nice town or village - Any suggestions most welcome....

Hi.

I'd recommend Lanzarote - incredibly beautiful and loads to see and do. Papagayo Beach near Playa Blanca even has small pools complete with fish for little ones to explore with nets - just wonderful!

I'd recommend Caletta de Fuste in Fuerteventura. The beach is very good for children and they have really thought about attracting families with young children by building free public playparks and the like. They'll probably also enjoy the mini train.

Thanks for your advice. Can you recommend a good place to stay in these places? Thanks.

Had a fantastic week at the Barcelo Fuerteventura in Costa Caleta last March - First time in that part of the world but was not disappointed. I believe it's one of the more sheltered areas/beaches on the island. The heated pools at the hotel were a bonus, could not get our 3 year old out of them. Looking for a good deal at the moment to make a return visit.

I'd agree with WeeJ's hotel choice, it's ideally situated with loads to keep the little 'uns amused.

Hi.

Just looking at your post again, bear in mind that both Lanzarote and Fuerteventura can be quite windy. (My only quibble about our accommodation in Lanzarote was that when we went in August it was too windy to eat outside and the wind chill made it quite cold at night.)

Caetta de Fuste is one of the more sheltered places. Much more so than anywhere in Lanza.

Hi,

We have stayed at the Playa Flamingo apartments in Playa Blanca, Lanzarote and they are fantastic for young children. Our son was 3 when we went and there are no roads to cross to get to the beach. The beach itself is lovely, clear shallow water and shops etc closeby.

we are going to the holiday village in lanzaorte in june. we went to the one in majorca 2 years ago and it was excellent. we went all inclusive and it was pretty cheap. the kids had a ball and were the same age as yours. it was so good we did not leave the complex for the first thee days and even then that was just to buy cigs :)

cant wait till june because the one in lanzaorte is suppose to be better than majorca. also great evening entertainment for kids aswell. highly recomend it for small kids 10 out 10.

its with first choice
