Plaza de España

The main square of Aviles is the Plaza de España. The plaza is quite big and the buildings around it are well preserved. One of the buildings at the plaza is the City Hall of Aviles, which dates from the 17th century, and was designed by the architect Juan de Estrada. It has a large clock on top of the building’s façade. Another impressive building at the Plaza de España is the Palace of the Marques de Ferrera, which today is the NH hotel, a five star hotel. The palace was built between the 17th and 18th centuries. The plaza has many restaurants with seating outside, so one can enjoy watching other people. Many of the buildings have the same height and are painted in white, yellow and pink.
