Driving from Granada to Seville

We are planning on driving from Granada to Seville, spending one night in Ronda. this will be our first time driving in Spain and would appreciate any recommendations on driving and which towns to include on our way to Seville.

It is fine to drive but it seems you have limited time and maybe cannot make use of the car fully. Of course I may be wrong. Many people including myself enjoy the trains in Andalucia and it is perfectly easy to take the Granada to Ronda train and doing this is quite relaxing. There is normally a 12.45 departure which stops at various places and gets into Ronda at 15.45.

The stations at Granada and Ronda are quite modest sizes and you cannot get lost plus Granada station is quite central and only a short taxi ride away.

Staying over in Ronda is easy as a taxi will take you to your accommodation and you will have plenty of time to absorb the town especially in the evening. After breakfast you could return to the station and take the train up to Cordoba which is around 2 hours away going through some good scenery so maybe the 10.09 train would be ideal. You will then have lunch in Cordoba as well as seeing the fantastic Mezquita ! Before heading to Seville by a later train which is only 45 minutes away. (Bags can be stored near the train station). Or maybe stay over in Cordoba as well !

Be sure to get a rental car with GPS. This will make it easy to enter Seville, which is a very large city and very confusing.

From Ronda to Seville, you can stop at Grazalema and Arcos de la Frontera.

Benny, do you know how the Apple Maps or Google Maps are for GPS in Andalusia. Is either as good as a GPS that comes with the rental?

Our route is from Granada - Antequera - Rhonda - Benaoján - La Cueva de la Pileta - Seville.

Thanks.

We just returned from a trip to this area. We rented a car at the Seville train station the morning we left Seville, you really don't want or need a car in the city. We spent one night in Arcos, then drove through Grazalema (my favorite) via the A372 which was a beautiful drive to Ronda. We spent the night there and then continued to Granada, dropping the car off at the train Station there.

This is exactly what we would like to do. But we leave by air from Madrid. do you think we should park the car for 2 days while we are in Granada and then drive back to Seville? The train is quite fast from Seville to Madrid but the bus from Granada is 5 hours.

Thanks

italiangirl:

There is an Altaria train from Granada that leaves at 9:10 and arrives in Madrid at 13:35.

Thank you BennyM.

I see the cost of the train would be $200 for 2 people, so it might be easier and less expensive to park the car for a day in Granada and then, after going to Alhambra, drive to Madrid. We have to fly out at 7 AM the following morning. There is a $80 fee for dropping off the car other than Seville, but if we don't go back to Seville, we have to pay the cost either in Granada or Madrid.

There is a premium service bus run by ALSA who have regular buses between Granada and Madrid. Very comfortable and costs under €40 furthermore you could take the bus from Granada at 20.30 in evening and arrive into Madrid airport at 1.15 am ! OK not ideal but saves on possibly needing to leave the Madrid hotel at some early hour then you may need to take a cab etc etc. Check in for a transatlantic flight is usually about 3 hours ahead I think.

The bus times can be found on (however no Saturday evening departures)
